In the last blog we aimed to change your thinking – get you shifting away from a scarcity mindset and toward a more  positive, abundance mentality.   We’re trying to move away from those feelings where we feel we are missing out, that your being left behind.  Taking away the panic.

Here’s some practical moves you can make now, armed with an abundance mentality . . .

Check your compass.  Where is it you really want to get?  You may find others are getting ahead and things are moving fast, but is that where you really want to go anyway? Take some time to reflect on your life’s direction.  Blogs 37, 38 and blog 39 were all part of a series on charting your career path.

Narrow your focus.  Gain clarity on where you want to head.

Now you have clarity on where you want to go, play a long game.  The harder you work, the luckier you get.  Be the best human you can be and work hard on the little things –plan well, have a self-improvement plan, build trust, treat people kindly, maintain a growth mindset and . . . embed the small habits you gain from the caddying blogs.  The harder you work, the luckier you get.  Look for and expect the opportunities to flow.

  • Be the best, healthiest person you can be.
  • Be the hungry, humble and smart employee your bosses are looking for.
  • Be patient.  Building these small rhythms in your life will make a compounding difference.

And have confidence in your rhythms.  Blog 17 talks about the impact of compounding habits.  Invest yourself in that blog.

Open your network:  Now you know where you are heading and have embedded

Where are the people with the same passion as you?  That person you want to be, in the career you want . . . where are they?  Where do they meet?  How can you find yourself in their sphere of influence?  Try and move yourself into those spaces.

people networking

These people have the same passion and interests as you.  Join them.  You might find yourself in there.

And now that you have found yourself in that network, try and find someone prepared to mentor you.  Don’t ask them to be a mentor . . . just ask them if you can take them for a coffee and ask good questions about their journey and passion for the area you share in common.  Try and see if you can take them for a coffee every month or so.

And as you travel this path, make sure you celebrate your small achievements

  • When you gain some clarity on your life’s direction
  • When you embed new rhythms into your life
  • When you show courage and join a network or social group of people heading in the same direction as you and . . .
  • When you take a potential mentor for coffee.

You don’t have to be left behind.

Step forward in confidence.
